The Emotional blog #001
August 2025 (Rollhard x Bicester 6.0)
Introductions
Hello everyone, I’m Henry and I’m one half of Emotional, there’s then Em, my girlfriend who is the other far more productive and creative half. (its more than likely her that's handmade all our products you’ve bought unless something's a bit wonky in which case it was probably me). Over the last 2 years I’ve slowly managed to brainwash her with my autism special interest to the point that id say we’re both enthusiasts now. Cars wise, currently I have an E92 M3 in Silverstone blue with 3 pedals #savethemanuals, and Em recently bought a spice orange R59 Mini Cooper S Roadster who is affectionately known as “Bob” (I think secretly, I love Bob even more than she does because I get to live out my mid life crisis of having a convertible but I'm in my 20’s instead of my 50’s). Anyway, that's enough about us for now, lets talk about Rollhard.
Rollhard X Bicester 6.0
I’ve been going to car shows since I could drive and even before that in fairness if you include events like going to rallies and classic shows etc with my dad when I was younger, everything from your broke boys to your tucked shows, ultimate dubs/stance, action days at castle coombe and all manner of smaller events all over the place. So id like to think I've got a fairly good idea of what to expect and the general gist of things when it comes to automotive events but for some reason I have never been to Rollhard… Em on the other hand has never actually been to a big proper show as i would say, we’ve made trips to caffeine and machine, gone to plenty of local cars and coffee events and such but never a full fat show.
So, my experience of Rollhard was simply incredible. To start off, yes there were other cars and I suppose you could call it a queue on a technicality but I don't think we stopped until we were maybe 3 or 4 cars back from getting our tickets scanned? Which personally I think is something in itself, the amount of times I've sat for at least an hour, up to 2 maybe 3 and we’ve all heard the stories of peoples experiences with some venues that have been hosting events in the last year or two that have been woefully under prepared to deal with such a volume of cars to the point that countless people who have travelled several hours away and bought tickets beforehand just turn around and go home. What I'm trying to say is it’s just something you come to expect but it was pleasantly surprising to not have to deal with it for once. This I can only put down to the experience of the staff at Bicester who were all very friendly and politely chatty and a thanks is definitely owed to them for helping things run smoothly so thank you to all of them.
So once we were parked up the first thing we were met with was the main hanger and the paddock just outside of it. A wonderful mix of cars from all different types of automotive culture and scenes, everything from BMW’s (an Alpina E36 compact comes to mind particularly which I've never seen before but thought was very cool and quirky) to Porsche’s, Nissans, Toyotas and even Volvos (albeit even if one of them was just a rolling shell with a S65 V8 but I don't care, that's cool as fuck)
The Hangar itself also provided plenty of peculiar sights that I enjoyed, some old dub builds including a very nice blue air cooled Beetle and a Harlekin Polo which Em liked very much. A pair of E34’s I noticed (I want one), a very cool MX5 with a roof box and a very cool blue and cream 2 tone sort of paint job or wrap going on which reminded me of the beach tbh and I think most notably of all the Sattire hearse… I've seen it on socials and I've watched them build it but in person I think it's just the coolest and most unique thing I've seen in a while, perfect for displaying merch but even the custom embroidered bucket seats they’ve put in I just think works so well.
The bulk of the show however was out the back, everything seemed to have been placed very deliberately and quite carefully so that no matter where you looked and where your focus fell it felt like you were looking at a perfectly framed photo just begging to be taken. Trees flanking and framing some, the old brickwork providing the perfect backdrop for others, nothing crammed in together but you could wander from one to the next with ease all the way round. A perfect image of summer time shoes and quite frankly, my favourite yet. It felt as though there was no ego, no posturing, nobody trying to have a pissing contest with anybody else, there was even a group of old T25 Volkswagen lifted campervan things set up around each other having a picnic. Basically the entire atmosphere was just good cars, good people and good vibes, all things we enjoy and appreciate about the car scene but which can often be missing from some events in one way or another.
Honestly as events go I'm not sure I’ll be able to take Em to another, because this was so incredible. I feel as though I've spoiled her and given her such a good first impression that now, because her expectations are set so high, it doesn’t matter where we go next it just probably won’t be quite as good as this was. This in fairness though may not be a bad thing because I'm fairly easy to please, as long as there’s some fine Bavarian automobiles for me to ogle at and make my pants feel smaller then I’m all set. She on the other hand has learned from me and in some senses is even worse than me for lets call it “highlighting” poorly modified, tacky and generally tasteless builds. Now I'm all for ReSpEcT aLl BuIlds but some of the… creations that people call builds these days are absolutely heinous, doesn't matter if you’re Mr moneybags or if you're living pay check to pay check, you can build something cool and creative on a budget but you can’t buy good taste (I'm looking specifically at the chameleon tint, joker sticker “hahahahaha”, bola wheels and Maxton stick on lip kit having ass copy and paste build people).
So yeah, I hope you enjoyed what I think could well become the unhinged ramblings of a mad man but we’ll see... I’ll try and do this monthly or perhaps a post for a specific show we've been to as well if we've been busy and have lots to talk about. But if for example over the winter there isn't a lot going on, I'll try and keep you guys and girls up to date even if it's just some behind the scenes stuff of our design process and how we make some of the stuff in the Emotional Sweatshop. So come back and check in regularly to watch me devolve into a tinfoil hat wearing anti government conspiracy theorist.
